I work for myself. I work flexible hours. I do not less hours or not as diligently as a person who works 9 to 5.30. In fact, I possibly work more diligently and I am more productive.
Part of this I am sure is because I work for myself but also I when I work I don’t have distractions. I work when my partner can take the kids, before the kids get up, when they go to bed and movie time!
My husband is working long hours and my kids are at a young age where they need to be minded. Recently, distressing tales have emerged of employees in distress as both partners are working full-time in the home paralleled with minding the kids.
As a mother, I know how stressful this situation is. No one is winning here; the kids are upset and probably even more needy and you are beyond stressed.
If you are in this situation, you need to speak with your employer about arranging a flexible working solution. Employers were dubious about working from home, but it works as will flexible hours. Employers want to hear a solution not a problem – when you approach them, approach with a plan.
When and how you can be productive and complete the work. Many are employers are on board but if they are not, they need to re-evaluate.
